The second post for “redo” week was a more recent post.  I was going to immortalize my Grandma Lil’s fresh apple cake with a post but neither my mother nor I were sure we had the right recipe.  I made the cake but one taste and I knew what I made wasn’t Grandma’s recipe.  Close but no cigar.  It was good but not memorable like Grandma’s cake.  We were stumped. My Thompson grandparents had an orchard with plums, crab apples and regular apples.  Grandma Lil made all kinds of pickles and wine and baked goods using the fruit from her orchard.  One of my absolute favorite things she made was a raw apple cake.  Then she’d throw together a caramel sauce from scratch to drizzle over it and I would pretty much lick the plate when I was done. I might not be the world’s largest fan of apple pie, but seeing these “fries” made me gasp.  They looked too fun for words!  I could just imagine the crispy texture of apple pie crust dipped into caramel sauce and then into my mouth.  I could save time and buy pie crust.  Boxes of premade pie crust happened to be on sale that week.  These fries were meant to be!
